Women' Golf places 4th at BIG EAST Championship

Notre Dame, Ind. - The Georgetown women?s golf team turned in a fourth-place finish at the first-ever BIG EAST Women?s Golf Championship on April 21-22 at the par-70 Warren Golf course in South Bend, Ind.  Hosted by eventual winner Notre Dame, the tournament fielded four competing teams. Georgetown, led by freshman Nicole Hayashi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), posted a combined score of 1018 (347, 326, 346) in the three-round competition on the 6,744 yard course.. 

The Fighting Irish won the tournament with a score of 941 (312, 305, 324), 44 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Miami (327, 334, 324).  Boston College claimed third place with 1010 (334, 341, 335).

Hayashi, as the Hoyas? top finisher, placed sixth overall. After a first round 82, Hayashi recorded scores of 78 and 84 in the next two rounds to finish with a combined 244. The next best finisher for Georgetown was freshman Christy Larrimore (Severna Park, Md.), who tied for the seventh spot with a three-round total of 245 (83, 78, 84).  Hayashi and Larrimore's performance earned both a spot on the the 2003 All-BIG EAST Team.

Sophomore Connie Isler (Annapolis, Md.), whose combined score of 262 (90, 82, 90), earned her a 14th-place finish. Rounding out the GU golfers were freshman Erin Cockren (Westfield, N.J.) who finished in a tie for 16th place with an overall score of 271 (92, 91, 88) and sophomore Lauren Frazer (Annapolis, Md.) who finished in 18th place with an composite score of 274 (92, 88, 94).

Next up for the Hoyas is the 26th Annual Northeast Women?s Intercollegiate Golf Championship at Amherst College in Amherst, Mass. on April 25-27.
