The Georgetown University Women?s Tennis Team downed BIG EAST rival Connecticut, 4-2, on Saturday at the East Hartford Racquet Club in Connecticut.

            The Hoyas started the match by winning the crucial doubles point with victories in two of the three doubles events.  At first doubles, sophomores Lydia Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. / Torrey Pines) and Trina Snow (Sartell, Minn. / Sartell) teamed up to beat the Huskies? Simcik and Russell, 8-5. After the Hoyas? Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Everglades) and Monisha Ghia (Bethlehem, Pa.) fell at second doubles, 8-5, it was left to Stephanie Sutton (Jr., Arlington, Texas / Sam Houston St.) and Liora Gelblum (So., Cupertina, Calif. / Monta Vista) at third singles to secure the doubles point. The duo came through with an 8-6 win over UCONN?s Schumsky and Shea, and the Hoyas began the match up 1-0.

            Three Hoyas won their singles matches to get the crucial four points and seal the win. Gelblum and Bartell each picked up their second victory of the day, respectively?Gelblum with a 6-2, 6-0 romp at first singles, and Bartell with a 7-5, 6-3 win at second singles. Ghia avenged her earlier doubles loss and defeated UCONN?s April Dixon 7-5, 6-0, to clinch the Hoya win. UCONN picked up its two points with a default win at #6 singles over GU?s Sutton, and a win over Botjer at fourth singles. Trina Snow?s third singles match was called with Snow leading Schumsky, 2-1.

            The win improved Georgetown?s dual match record to 5-4-1, with an impressive 4-2-1 mark in BIG EAST matches. The Hoyas return to action on Tuesday, April 8, when the Howard Bison visit Georgetown for a non-league dual match. First service is at 2:30 p.m.
