WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown University women?s basketball Head Coach Patrick Knapp announced today that Jennifer Wasson is joining the Hoyas? coaching staff for the 2003-2004 season. Wasson was formerly an assistant women?s basketball coach for six seasons at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Her coaching duties for the Hoyas will include scouting, recruiting, individual player instruction and travel arrangements.
In her six years with the Lady Blazers Wasson helped build a program that advanced to the postseason twice including a run to the NCAA ?Sweet Sixteen? to conclude the 1999-2000 campaign. Wasson?s major role was the development of each player?s individual skills with a heavy interest in the conditioning and physical development areas of the post players. Three post players earned all-conference honors under Wasson?s tutelage. Off the court Wasson also had an impact in Birmingham by helping coordinate the marketing and promotions of the UAB program and attempting to increase Lady Blazer fan support.
?Jennifer brings a wealth of experience to our staff,? commented Coach Knapp. ?She has worked in the very competitive Conference USA and those experiences will be instrumental in helping both our players and staff in becoming a better team.?
Wasson graduated from the University of Mobile in 1994, where she was a two-time all-conference selection and scored 1,303 points in her career (the first men?s or women?s basketball player to ever reach the 1,000 point plateau). She began her coaching career at Faulkner State Community College before earning a master?s degree in physical education at Western Kentucky in 1998 while assisting with the women?s basketball squad. Wasson spent one season at the University of South Florida before taking the assistant spot at UAB. She is a native of Pensacola, Florida.
