WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman Andrew Campbell (San Diego, Calif./The Bishops School) and senior Shelly Wentworth (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) were named 2003 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) All-Americans. Campbell is the first Georgetown freshman to earn this honor in Hoya history.
Campbell won a number of collegiate regattas his freshman year, capturing the 2002 ICSA Singlehanded National Championship in November. In that regatta he defeated a number of excellent sailors including the 2003 Sailor of the Year, en-route to Georgetown's first singlehanded National Championship. Campbell was named coed sailing team MVP for the 2002-03 season as well as US Sailing Association Male Athlete of the Year for 2002. In 2002, besides winning the Collegiate National Championship, he took both the US and World Junior titles. Campbell, a member of the US Olympic sailing team, will be taking the 2003-04 season off to prepare for the olympics.
Wentworth, the 2002-03 women's team MVP, sailed for both the coed and women's squads this year. In her four years at Georgetown, Shelly helped the Hoyas to a number of victories including the 2001 ICSA Team Racing National Championship. In 2003, Shelly sailed on the A division boat for the women's team and also sailed with Andrew Campbell in team races.
