WASHINGTON, D.C. -- After fielding the youngest team in program history last season, the Hoya men?s soccer team returned to action last Saturday against George Washington in its lone preseason scrimmage.
Riding the experience of its three returning seniors, Georgetown overcame GW with a 3-0 victory and looks to start this season the way it left off last year. After losing their first three contests a year ago, the Hoyas rallied to win eight of their last 14 games-- a stretch that also included an inspiring 0-0 tie with then-#1 ranked St. John?s-- to earn an 11th consecutive trip to the Big East Championship.
Georgetown?s youth, however, proved to be the difference against the Colonials. Sophomores Kemmons Feldman (Eden Prarie, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) and Danny McAnally (Mendham, N.J./Delbarton) provided the Hoyas with two goals and newcomer Ricky Schramm (East Chester, N.Y./Fordham Prep School) capped off the scoring spree with his first goal of his collegiate career.
Starting senior goalie Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./Freeman) and freshman Andrew Keszler (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) were impressive recording Georgetown?s first shutout of the pre-season.
The Hoyas look to build on their momentum Labor Day Weekend when they start the regular season by playing host to the D.C. College Cup on Friday, August 29 and Sunday, August 31. The Hoyas will play Howard at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and American at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
