JAMAICA, N.Y. - St. John's scored two second half goals leading to a 3-0 win over Georgetown in a BIG EAST men's soccer match in front of 1,187 at Belson Stadium. The win, St. John's third-straight, improves the Red Storm to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas fall to 2-1-2 and 0-1 in league play.
The Red Storm broke through in the 13th minute. A foul by Hoyas? defender Tim Convey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) resulted in a free kick for St. John's just outside the box. Senior Simone Salinno had his shot from 24 yards out bounce off the wall slightly and went past Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./Freeman) to the lower far post, giving St. John's a 1-0 lead at 12:51.
In the second half the Red Storm's Ryan Kelly scored two goals. In the 63rd minute, Kelly took a throw-in, dribbled along the 22-yard line with open space, settled the ball and beat Hogan to the lower near post. Eight minutes later, the junior added his second goal of the season.
The Red Storm, who have scored nine goals in the last three games, out shot Georgetown 19-2, including 10-1 in shots on goal, and had five corner kicks to the Hoyas' one.
Georgetown comes home this Tuesday for a matchup with Towson at 3 p.m.
