WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown?s men's soccer team returned home to North Kehoe Field and defeated Towson University, 3-1 on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. The win brings the Hoyas record to 2-2-2 on the season.
The Hoyas started the scoring half way through the first half, after a blocked shot from senior Carl Skanderup (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) left a scramble of players looking for the ball. The ball came to sophomore Dan Pydo (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), who placed the ball past the Towson goalkeeper.
Towson?s Peter Johnson came back to score a few minutes later, after a few passes in front of the goal he chipped the ball past senior goalkeeper Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va. /Freeman). However, with 34 seconds left in the first half, junior Dan Gargan (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) placed a perfect shot into the lower corner of the goal, off of a 20-yard free kick. This gave the Hoyas a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
The second half of play saw Towson looking for the tying goal and Georgetown seeking the put-away. The opportunity came for the Hoyas late in the second half, when junior Kaiser Chowdhry (Columbia, Md./McDonogh) was taken down in the box. Chowdhry saw his first action of the season against Towson after recuperating from a preseason injury.
Sophomore back Jeff Curtin (Oreland, Pa./Germantown Academy) converted his second penalty kick of the year, to give the Hoyas a 3-1 lead and the victory.
The Hoyas face the Boston College Eagles in Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Friday, September 19th at 3 p.m. The next home game will be against Virginia Tech on Wednesday, September 24th at 3 p.m.
