WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Georgetown University Sailing Team competed in four regattas over the weekend of Sept. 13-14. The Hoyas came away with first-place finishes at the Riley Cup at Old Dominion and the Jesuit Cup at Fordham, a respectable eighth-place finish at the Captain Hurst Bowl at Dartmouth, and worked toward qualifying for the Laser District Championships at the Navy Laser Open.

Georgetown sailed well on Saturday and went into the last four races just a few points out of second-place overall. Sunday was a different story as A division sailed well but B division did not, racking up a large number of points in a short time.

The Hoyas sailed quite well to win the Riley Cup for the 4th time in six years. A division skipper Derek Webster and crew Dorothee Bergin started quite strong winning the first three races. In B division, freshmen JB Turney and Emily Siguler were quite consistent and finished only 7 points out of first-place.

The Hoyas won the Jesuit Cup for the second year in a row. This regatta was first
sailed in the 1950's and went through to 1971 before it was abandoned. With the
resurgence of the Fordham team, the regatta was resurrected last year. The Hoyas turned in a commanding performance in A division, winning 14 out of 18 races.

Langdon Mitchell 13th w/ 203 points
Both Bill and Langdon sailed well in a few races but never put together a string of good races and finished in a disappointing manner. The top six boats qualified for the Laser district championships. Bill and Langdon will have one more shot to qualify for the championship at another regatta in a few weeks.
