WASHINGTON, D.C. ? In a hard fought game between the Hoyas and the Villanova Wildcats, junior guard Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./ Whitehall) claimed the Georgetown all-time three point field goal record with two three pointers and helped the team (10-9, 4-5) snap a two-game losing streak. The Wildcats (14-5, 4-4) fell to 0-4 on the road in conference play following the loss.

Lisicky recorded her career first double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while All-America candidate Rebekkah Brunson (Sr., Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) inked her 43rd career double-double and 11th of the season with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Liad Suez and Jenna Viani led VU with 16 apiece.

Georgetown took the lead early in the first half after Lisicky scored her first three to give the Hoyas a 3-2 lead. The Hoyas then scored nine points to take a 12-5 lead, which was capped by Lisicky?s record breaking three-pointer. The game saw a quick pace in the first half, with both teams taking a number of shots, but the score stayed on the low side, with the halftime lead of 28-27 in favor of the Wildcats.

In the second half, Brunson took over the game for the Hoyas, scoring 15 of her 24 points and adding seven more rebounds to her 14 on the day. The lead in the second half was no more than two points for the first 17 minutes, until Brunson hit a lay-up in the paint, off a pass by junior guard Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), putting the Hoyas up three. On the next possession for the Wildcats, Suez hit a three to tie the game at 48-48. Georgetown then retook the lead after a jumper from Brunson, leaving the score at 50-48 and left Villanova with one last chance to tie the game, but a steal by freshman forward Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./ Mount St. Joseph?s) sealed the game for the Hoyas.

The Hoyas won the battle of the boards 45-27 and held Villanova to 12.4 points under its average, the 15th time GU has held its opposition under its season average. Georgetown held the VU offense to 29.6% shooting from the floor.

Georgetown will go on the road to take on Notre Dame on Wednesday, February 4th, at 7 p.m.
