PITTSBURGH, PA ? A late goal from Justin Genes led the Pittsburgh men?s soccer team to an exciting 2-1 victory over Georgetown on Wednesday night at Founders Field. Pittsburgh improves to 4-5-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the Big East. Georgetown moves to 8-7-0 overall and 4-4-0 in conference play.
Justin Genes game-winning goal came with only three minutes left in the game. Genes picked up a loose ball off of a cross and sent it soaring into the back of the net for the goal. The game-winning goal was Genes? second of the season.
Pittsburgh scored first when Dwayne Higgins shot a breakaway ball past a diving Andrew Keszler (So., Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) and into the right corner of the net. At the end of the first half, Pittsburgh led the match 1-0.
The Hoyas tied the game 1-1 in the 54th minute when Ricky Schramm (So., East Chester, N.Y./ Fordham Prep), the BIG EAST's leading goal scorer, received a crossing pass from Kaiser Chowdhry (Sr., Columbia, Md./ McDonogh) and sent the ball into the back of the net.
Pittsburgh outshot Georgetown 12-9. Justin Lowery recorded four saves while Andrew Keszler also notched four saves.
The Hoyas return home to face Boston College on Saturday, October 23rd at 1 p.m.
