WASHINGTON, D.C. ?The Georgetown University men?s soccer team (9-7-1, 4-4-1) defeated the Navy Midshipmen 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at North Kehoe Field.
Georgetown scored its first goal 17 minutes into the game after sophomore Ricky Schramm (East Chester N.Y./Fordham Prep School) was fouled by a Navy defender in the box and the Hoyas received a penalty kick. Senior Paul Brandley (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) took the kick and notched a goal to put the Hoyas up 1-0. The rest of the half remained scoreless with GU outshooting the Mids nine to three.
The Hoyas struck early in the second half, with senior Trevor Goodrich (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) putting the Hoyas up 2-0 off a cross by Richard Diaz (Los Angeles, Calif./St. John Bosco) after a feed from Danny McAnally (Mendham, N.J./Delbarton) at the 47:24 mark. The next twenty minutes remained scoreless until Navy?s Ryan Trespalacios notched a goal, cutting the Hoya lead to one.
Georgetown outshot Navy 20-9 margin and Hoya goalkeeper Joe Devine (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) made three saves while Navy?s goalkeeper Frank Defilippo had five.
The Hoyas will host BIG EAST opponent Seton Hall scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 30 on North Kehoe Field in a battle that will determine seeding in the 2004 BIG EAST Championship.
