Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Georgetown's Ricky Schramm (So., East Chester, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) scored three goals to lead the Hoyas past Syracuse, 3-2, in BIG EAST men's soccer action at the SU Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 3. The Orange is now 2-7-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas improved to 6-5-0 and 2-2-0 in league action.

Syracuse's two goals tied a season high. The Orange's first goal in the 52nd minute snapped a scoreless streak of 409:41 dating back to SU's win at Oneonta on Sept. 14. Junior Pat Gallagher registered a career-high three points on his first career goal and an assist. Junior Alejandro Nuno also netted his first career goal, while freshman Aric Johnson, playing in his first collegiate game, added an assist. Junior Jeff Evans also had an assist.

Georgetown's Kaiser Chowdhry (Sr., Columbia, Md./ McDonogh) and Dan Gargan (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./ Chestnut Hill Academy) each had two assists. The duo teamed up to assist on Schramm's second goal that gave the Hoyas a 2-1 lead.

Andrew Keszler (So., Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) had four saves for the Hoyas, while Alim Karim made one save in his third start of the season. The Orange outshot the Hoyas, 13-11.

After a scoreless opening half, the Orange struck first on Gallagher's goal in the 52nd minute. Evans fired a shot on goal that was deflected by Keszler. Gallagher took the loose ball and fired it off the far post and into the net to put SU ahead, 1-0.

The Hoyas responded with three unanswered goals. Schramm and Chowdhry combined on a give-and-go the game-tying goal in the 60th minute. The Hoyas took the lead in the 70th minute when Schramm converted a header on the goal line. Chowdhry started the play with a cross into the box, and Gargan headed the ball to Schramm for the goal. The final Georgetown goal came in the 74th minute when Gargan slotted a pass through two Syracuse defenders that left Schramm one-on-one with the SU goalkeeper. His shot to the bottom left corner of the net was just beyond a diving Karim.

The Orange closed within one goal with 45 seconds remaining. Gallagher played a long ball into the box where Johnson headed it to the feet of Nuno. Nuno rifled a shot into the right side of the goal for his first of the season.

The Hoyas next face Providence in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, October 9, at 1 p.m.
