BOX SCORE
WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Georgetown University men?s soccer team?s (10-7-1, 5-4-1) offense exploded in the second half, giving the Hoyas a 4-0 win over Seton Hall in both teams final BIG EAST match of the season. The win clinches a spot in the BIG EAST tournament for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas first struck five minutes into the second period, when sophomore Ricky Schramm (East Chester, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) hit the top left corner of the goal on a pass from Dan Grasso (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central) who took a feed from Chris Tansey (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn). The Hoyas followed up with two more goals by senior captain Dan Gargan (Philadelphia, Pa./ Chestnut Hill Academy) and sophomore Tim Convey (Philadelphia, Pa./ Penn Charter) respectively. Schramm and Convey assisted on the Gargan goal, while Trevor Goodrich (Sr., Palo Alto, Calif./ Palo Alto) and Jeff Curtin (Oreland, Pa./Germantown Academy) picked up assists on the Convey strike. The Hoyas finished the Pirates off with a Paul Brandley (Sr., Larchmont, N.Y./ Mamaroneck) goal which was assisted by Grasso, his second of the game.
Although the Georgetown offense picked up in the second half, the first half saw little offense and a lot of fouls on both sides. By the time the halftime whistle blew, there had been six yellow cards awarded; three to each team.
The Hoyas controlled the ball throughout the game, having out shot the Pirates by a margin of 20-10. The Hoyas also put seven shots on goal to the Pirates? three. GU goalkeeper Andrew Keszler?s (So., Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) three saves were good enough to record him his fourth shutout of the season.
With the win, The Hoyas return to Kehoe Field on Tuesday, November 2
nd to finish up their regular season against the Keydets of VMI. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
