Women's Swimming and Diving Tops St. Francis

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Georgetown University women?s swimming and diving team held a dual meet on November 6 with Georgia Southern and St. Francis. The Georgetown women went 1-1, defeating St. Francis 116-22, but losing to Georgia Southern 75-65. Georgia Southern defeated St. Francis 80-45.

The women had a strong team showing, as four swimmers had first place finishes and one diver taking first. In the 1000 yard freestyle, the Hoyas finished one-two with Cori Raffaelli (Oxnard, Calif./Ventura College) claiming victory in 10:46.51 and Kelcey Poulson (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich High) finishing closely behind in 10:52.19. Raffaelli also finished first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.34. Junior Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) placed first in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:58.14. Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) had a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) closely behind in 2:16.37. Liz Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) claimed first in 100 yard backstroke (1:02.40) and second place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:14.88). Corrine Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) had a strong second place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:30.73). Freshman Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./ Monson High) had a solid day for the Hoyas, finishing second in the 50 yard freestyle and the 200 yard IM with times of 25.72 and 2:14.40 respectively, as well as third in the 100 yard freestyle (55:51). Two Hoya relays placed second: the 200 medley relay team of L. Nugent, Rhodes, C. Nugent, and Colling finished with a time of 1:54.94, and the 400 yard freestyle relay of Amaro, Megan Maragakes (Doylestown, Pa./ Central Bucks East), Poulson, and Raffaelli finished in 3:44.49.

Kelcey Moore (Arlington, Va./ The Maderia School) and Katie Oldham (Verdi, Nv./ McQueen High) represented the Hoyas in the women?s diving. Moore placed first in the 1 meter diving (237.15) and second in the 3 meter (203.79). Oldham placed fourth in the 1 meter (193.55) and third in the 3 meter (198.52).

The Hoyas will host Mary Washington and American on Saturday November 13 at 1 p.m. The meet will be held in Yates Field House.
