WASHINGTON, D.C.-The Georgetown University swimming and diving team competed at the Patriot Invite held George Mason over November 19-21. The Georgetown women placed eighth of 11 teams with 210 points while the Georgetown men placed 10th of 11 teams with 74 total points. Duke women won the meet with 863 points while Yale captured the win with 797.50 points.
The Georgetown women had a strong showing over the three days. Junior Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) had the top individual finish for the team, placing fifth in the 500 yard freestyle (5:03.50). Amaro also had a seventh place finish in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.61), as well as being part of the 400 freestyle relay team that finished fifth. Freshman Caitlin Colling (Monson, Ma/ Monson High) had a strong showing for the Hoyas, placing seventh in the 100 yard freestyle (53.66), and taking two 11th place finishes in the 200 yard IM, 50 yard freestyle, and a 12th place finish in the 200 yard freestyle. Junior Corrine Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) continued to dominate the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.36, as well as placing 14th in the 200 yard breaststroke. Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) had a solid finish in the 200-yard butterfly, timing 2:13.98 while placing 14th. Cori Raffaelli (Oxnard, Calif./Ventura College) finished 12th in the 500 yard freestyle (5:06.42), while Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) finished 14th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.50). The 400 yard freestyle relay composed of Colling, Kelcy Poulson (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich High), Raffaelli, and Amaro was the top relay for the Hoyas, placing fifth with a time of 3:36.28. The Hoyas had strong showings in the other relay events: the 200 and 800 yard freestyle relays placed eighth, as well as the 400 yard medley relay placing 11th.
The Georgetown men were lead by senior captain Kevin Walsh (Bethesda, Md./Saint Anslems) who had the top individual finish for the Hoyas with an eighth place 200-yard butterfly (1:57.28), as well as placing 17th in the 100 yard butterfly (52.77). The 200 yard freestyle relay composed of Peter Myers (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame High), Don Ball (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Chris Ball (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Michael Bayer (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) placed 12th with a time of 1:28.95). The 200 yard medley relay of Heath Walden (Scituate, Mass./Boston College High), Brendan Griffin (Andover, Mass./St. John's Prep), Walsh, and Bayer also finished 12th with a time of 1:40.95.
In women?s diving action, Kelcey Moore (Arlington, Va./ The Maderia School) placed fifth in the one meter dive (412.50) and 12th in the three meter dive (291.15). Katie Oldham (Verdi, Nv./ McQueen High) placed 10th (308.70) in the three meter dive and 12th in the one meter dive (172.20).
In men?s diving action, Santini Reali (Sarasota, Fla.) placed ninth in the one meter dive with a score of 205.90 and placed 12th in the three meter dive with a score of 270.05.
The Georgetown swimming and diving teams will next compete against Seton Hall on January 4th held in Puerto Rico.
