WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown women?s basketball team celebrated its 2003-04 season at the annual team banquet on Thursday, April 15th. Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) earned her fourth consecutive Coaches Award - MVP and second consecutive Best Rebounder award, while teammate Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was voted the team?s Best Defensive Player.
For the second straight season Brunson was named the team MVP and the team?s Best Rebounder. She completed her senior season as an AP Honorable Mention All-American and the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. She led Georgetown and the conference in scoring and rebounding and finished as Georgetown?s career rebounding champion (1,093) and ranks second on the all-time scoring list (1,762).
LeSueur earned the Best Defensive Player Award after her first season in the Blue and Gray and was the co-recipient of the Patricia E. Corace Hustle Award. She ended the year as Georgetown?s steals leader with 55 and ranked second in rebounding with a 5.5 per game average.
Also bringing home two awards for the second straight season was senior Narumol Berggren (Stockholm, Sweeden/Vasalundgymnasium (Seminole C.C)). Berggren was presented with the Mya M. Klauson Scholar Athlete Award and was co-recipient along with LeSueur for the Patricia E. Corace Hustle Award. Berggren saw action in 11 games during the course of the season.
Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) shot 88.2% from the free throw line during 2003-04 which set a new Georgetown single season record and earned GU?s Best Free Throw Shooter Award. She currently ranks as Georgetown?s all-time leader in free-throw percentage, connecting on 167-of-200 (.835) over the course of her three seasons.
The Most Improved Player Award was given to junior Varda Tamoulianis (Moscow, Russia, Academy of Labour and Social Relations). She started 24 games and finished third on the team in rebounding, 4.9 rpg, and fifth in scoring, 5.9 ppg. As a sophomore Tamoulianis saw action in 21 games and averaged 2.0 points and 1.8 rebounds.
Sophomore Leslie Tyburski (Hammond, Ind./ Gavit) was awarded the Unsung Heroine Award. Tyburski played in 18 games.
Ernest Holly earned the Fan of the Year Award and women?s basketball SID Kevin Rieder was awarded the Special Service Award.
