WASHINGTON (AP) - Freshman Jeff Green had 21 points and nine rebounds as Georgetown matched its victory total of last season with a 66-57 victory over St. John's on Tuesday night.
Brandon Bowman scored 14 points and Ashanti Cook added 13 for the Hoyas (13-5, 5-2 Big East), who are in their first year under coach John Thompson III.
Daryll Hill scored 20 points and Lamont Hamilton added 14 points and four blocks for St. John's (7-9, 1-5), which has lost five of its last six. Hill also committed nine turnovers.
Green's three-point play gave Georgetown a 52-40 lead with 9:45 remaining. St. John's never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.
The Hoyas, who have won four of their last five, scored the final seven points of the first half for a 31-27 lead. They shot 50 percent for the game.
Green's layup gave the Hoyas their first lead, 24-23, with 6:31 remaining in the half. St. John's took a 10-4 lead as the Hoyas managed only four field-goal attempts in the first five minutes.
The Hoyas' victory was only their second in the last 10 meetings with the Red Storm, who lead the series 50-35.
