Washington, DC - The Georgetown men's soccer got behind early and never recovered and was defeated 6-0 by the #13 ranked Maryland Terrapins today at North Kehoe Field. The Hoyas, who have lost four straight, fall to 7-6 overall and host BIG EAST foe Notre Dame on Saturday, October 15.
Maryland scored its first goal just 3:40 into the contest when senior forward Jason Garey took a pass from Robbie Rogers and placed it neatly into the net past GU sophomore starter Joe Devine (Exton, Pa./The Haverford School).
Five minutes later, the Terrapins extended their lead to 2-0 when sophomore Stephen King ripped one in from 25 yards out.
Maryland went up 3-0, three minutes later when sophomore Maurice Edu notched his first goal of the season as he got his foot on a loose ball from 12 yards out.
Maryland red-shirt sophomore Robbie C'deBaca and senior Marc Burch each netted their first goals of the season in the last five minutes before halftime as the visitors took a 5-0 lead into intermission.
For the game, Georgetown tallied three shots on goal to Maryland's 13.
Hoya junior goalkeeper Andrew Keszler (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) made four saves in the second half.
The GU contest with the Fighting Irish is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
