Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's soccer team plays their final non-league game of the season when the Hoyas host #24 Creighton in the first-ever meeting between the schools on Wednesday, October 19. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m at North Kehoe Field.
GU snapped a four-game slide with a 1-0 win in BIG EAST action over #22 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. It was Georgetown's second win of the season over a ranked opponent (#14 VCU, Sept. 9).
The Hoyas, who rank seventh in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Atlantic Region Poll, have an 8-6 overall record, 4-4 in BIG EAST play and sit alone in fourth place in the Blue Division with a week and a half left in the regular season.
Georgetown junior Daniel Grasso (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central) tallied his third goal of the season vs. the Fighting Irish when he intercepted a Notre Dame pass and ripped an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute. For his efforts, Grasso earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll as announced by the league office on Monday.
Hoya goalkeeper Andrew Keszler (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) notched his fourth shutout of the season against Notre Dame. The junior, who matched his shutout total of last year, now has eight for his career.
Junior Ricky Schramm (Eastchester, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and senior Ben Jefferson-Dow (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt (SMU)) continue to rank among the league's top scorers. Schramm leads the team and is tied for fourth in the BIG EAST with seven goals while Jefferson-Dow ranks eighth on the circuit with six markers.
Crieghton is ranked 15th by Soccer Times, 21st by College Soccer News and 24th by Soccer America. The Blue Jays have a 7-2-3 overall record and are in sole possession of first place with a 3-0 mark in Missouri Valley Conference action. Creighton has won three straight games, including a 2-0 win over ninth-ranked and previously unbeaten Missouri State on October 12.
After Wednesday's meeting with Creighton, Georgetown travels to Marquette to face the Golden Eagles in a BIG EAST tilt on Saturday, October 22.
