Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team welcomed local rivals American, George Washington and Maryland Baltimore-County this weekend to the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex for the 2005 Washington Baltimore Challenge.

For the weekend, the Hoyas posted a singles record of 13 wins and 7 losses and a doubles record of 4 wins and 7 losses.

Georgetown outpaced its rivals on Saturday, rising to the challenge of facing all three teams while compiling a record of 15 wins against only 7 losses.

In the first match-up of the day against American, the Hoyas won five-of-seven singles matches. On the winning end for the Hoyas was sophomore Adriann Gin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) at No. 1 singles, freshman Taylor Martin (Hinsdale, Ill.) in the third position, junior Eileen Boyle (Burr Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) at No. 4, senior Charlotte Guy (Pasadena, Calif.) at No. 5 and freshman Lauren Bakios (Portsmouth, R.I.) in the final slot.

Immediately taking the court for their second match of the day after the American contest concluded, Georgetown would win two of three doubles matches against George Washington. Sophomores Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) and Gin paired at first doubles for the match of the day. After finding themselves down five games to two, the second-year tandem resurrected their game, winning six of the next nine games to force a tiebreaker, where they prevailed 7-5 to take the match 9-8(5). Earllier, Martin collected her second win of the day pairing with freshman Courtney Olsen (Engelwood, Calif.) at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 win.

After a short break, Georgetown faced American again, but this time in doubles. Georgetown won two of four matches, as Martin, again paired with Olsen, won her third match of the day, with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen duo of Mary O'Loughlin (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Bakios picked up the other Hoya win at No. 4 doubles, 8-3.

The Hoyas final match of the first day saw Georgetown face UMBC in singles competition, where they won six of eight matches. Cohen and Olsen each won their first singles match of the day at No. 1 and 5, respectively, while Gin and Guy each won at singles for the second time. Martin finished day one undefeated with her fourth victory and freshman Natalie Newman (Wayzata, Minn.) won for the first time, taking her match at third singles.

In the first match on Sunday, Georgetown faced UMBC in doubles competition. UMBC exacted revenge from the singles losses on Saturday afternoon, by sweeping all four doubles matches.

In the Hoyas last match of the weekend, Georgetown renewed its rivalry with George Washington, seeing the Colonials win three of the five singles match ups. Earning the lone wins for Georgetown was Newman at No. 3 by a 8-1 score and Olsen at No. 5, 8-5.

The Hoyas next competition will see them on the road for the first time this year as they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for a dual match with Temple on Saturday October 8 at 12:30 p.m.
