West Virginia Edges Hoyas, 1-0

Morgantown, W.Va. - The Georgetown men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the West Virginia Mountaineers on a chilly evening in a battle of teams in the league's Blue Division. The Hoyas, who were shutout for just the second time this season, fall to 7-5 overall 3-4 in BIG EAST action.

Georgetown and West Virginia each collected 12 shots with WVU compiling five shots on goal to the Hoyas three. GU held the advantage on corner kicks 6-3.

After a scoreless first half, WVU (8-4-1, 4-2-1 BE) got on the board in the 74th minute when sophomore Andy Wright tallied his third goal of the season on a long shot from forty yards out past Hoya goalkeeper Joe Devine (Exton, Pa./The Haverford School).

Georgetown junior goalkeeper Andrew Keszler (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) made three saves in 50 minutes of action before he was forced to leave the game due to injury after a collision with a WVU player. Alex Fairman (Ardmore, Pa./The Haverford School) and Mike Glaccum (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle) each posted shots on goal.

GU had won seven straight over the Mountaineers

Georgetown begins a stretch of three home games against nationally ranked team on Tuesday, October 11th when they host #13 Maryland in a non-league game that begins at 3:00 p.m.
