Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head women's basketball coach Terri Williams-Flournoy announced that Kenya Kirkland (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Grand Street Campus) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Georgetown University in the fall semester of 2006.
Kenya Kirkland, a 5-8 guard, averaged 13 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists for the Grand Street Campus Wolves, who captured the Brooklyn, N.Y. A-II Division title with a 15-1 league record and advanced to the PSAL class A quarterfinals during the 2004-05 season.
"Kenya is a quick, athletic guard," said Williams-Flournoy. "She is a great passer and can play the 1, 2 or 3. Kenya's best days are ahead of her."
Kirkland joins Zhondria Benn (Baltimore, Md./Western High School), Jaleesa Butler (Alton, Ill./Alton) and Meredith Cox (McSherrytown, Pa./Delone Catholic) in the Hoyas women's basketball class of 2010.
Georgetown finished the 2004-05 season with a 12-16 overall record for first-year head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy and the Hoyas earned a berth in the BIG EAST Championship. GU tips off the 2005-06 season on Sunday, November 20 when they travel to Savannah State for a 2 p.m. non-league game.
