Hoyas Open 2005-06 Season at Savannah St.

Nov. 18, 2005

The Game... Georgetown tips off the 2005-06 campaign at Savannah State in the first-ever meeting between the schools on Sunday, November 20 in Georgia. Georgetown has eight active players on the roster this season but does return four starters from a year ago.

GU returns 61 percent of their scoring output from last season. Most of that scoring came from the Hoyas' four returning starters.

Fifth-year senior Bethany LeSueur hits the hardwood again after starting every game last season. LeSueur ranked third on the team with 9.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists in more then 30 minutes per contest.

Sophomore Kieraah Marlow led the team with 12.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in 2004-05 and earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Freshmen team. In addition to making 45 percent of her field goals, the Coatesville, Pa. native ranked third in the league in rebounds and seventh with a 72 percent free throw percentage.

Junior Kate Carlin averaged 8.1 points and 2.6 rebounds last season as a sophomore. Carlin started 15 of the team's final 16 games, averaging 8.8 points while shooting 44 percent from the floor in those starts. She was the team's top long distance threat making 41 treys (36 percent 3FG).

Sophomore Krisitin Heidloff averaged 6.1 points in a little more than 25 minutes per game. Heidloff, made a team-best 40.5% (34-84) of her threes, while ranking second on the team with 84 assists. Heidloff also ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in assist-to-turnover ratio (84 assts/47 TO).

Georgetown will also look for contributions from seniors Leslie Tyburski and Christine Whitt and freshmen Nikki Bozeman and Katrina Wheeler.

For Openers... The Hoyas have posted a 16-19 all-time record in season openers since the program began during the 1970-71 season. GU is 4-1 in their last five openers with the lone loss coming last year in a home loss to neighborhood rival George Washington, 67-62.

Pre-season Poll... Georgetown was picked to finish in 11th place of the new 16-team BIG EAST Conference as announced at the league's Women's Basketball Media Day held at the ESPN Zone in New York City on Oct. 28. The poll is determined by a vote of the league's 16 head coaches who are not permitted to place their own teams on the ballot.
