Washington, D.C. - Georgetown senior Andrew Campbell (San Diego, Calif./The Bishops School) became the first competitor ever to win the 2005-06 ICSA/Vanguard Singlehanded National Championship three times, as he outlasted a field of 16 sailors in Saturday's final day of competition at the HCC Marine Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Along with being the first to win three times, Campbell is only the third to take home back-to-back Glen Foster Trophies in its 42 year history. He also took home the championship as a freshman in 2003.
Campbell won the title with ease, posting 64 points over the event's 16 races and beating Clay Johnson of Harvard by 15 points. Campbell took over the lead after the fourth race of the championship and would never relinquish it. For the two days, he posted 12 top-five finishes, including four first place finishes.
