Hoyas Fall To Red Storm, 76-67

Hoyas split with Red Storm. The Hoyas lost a second consecutive road game on 2/20/05, falling to St. John's at Madison Square Garden by a score of 67-76. Jeff Green paced all scorers with 20 points, including 10 of 13 from the stripe and Brandon Bowman added 19 on 8 of 12 from the field, while pacing GU's rebounding effort with 5.

The Hoyas started slowly, taking quick perimeter shots but finding themselves cold in the world's most famous arena. The Red Storm rebounded well and penetrated for layups to establish a 10 point lead at 13:23. When GU cut the deficit to 4, (12-16 12:15) the home team answered with a run of their own to build their edge to 12. Turnovers at key points also hurt the Hoyas who trailed by as many as 19 in the opening frame. At intermission the score was 29-45.

In the second frame the Hoyas improved its offense (34.6% to 48.3%) and its defense, holding St. John's to 35% after a 57.7% first half. Georgetown cut 8 points out of the Red Storm's lead only to allow a five point mini-run. GU then worked the deficit down to 6 on two occasions and in the final 57.9 trailed by only 5. The Hoyas had to foul to get the ball back, but St. John's hit its free throws (4 of 4) and won 67-76.

For the game the Hoyas forced 17 turnovers while giving up 12, but lost the battle of the boards 23-39. Georgetown shot 41.8% while the Storm averaged 47.8%.
