PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Ashanti Cook matched his career high with 23 points and combined with freshman Tyler Crawford in a late first-half run that led Georgetown to a 61-56 win over Rutgers on Saturday night, handing the Scarlet Knights' their fifth straight loss.

Crawford had seven of his 11 points in the spurt as Georgetown (15-6, 7-3 Big East) beat Rutgers (7-12, 1-8) for the second time this season.

The conference start matches Rutgers' worst after nine games in the Big East. They also were 1-8 in 2000-01 season and 1995-96.

Ollie Bailey had 11 points to lead Rutgers, which has lost nine of 10.

Down 52-42 with 4:12 to play, the Scarlet Knights made a run. Quincy Douby hit a 3-pointer and two free throws in an 8-2 run that got Rutgers within 54-50 with 2:18 to play.

After Jonathan Wallace hit two free throws with 1:57 to push the lead back to six points, Douby and Ricky Shields missed jumpers and Cook eventually added two more free throws to give the Hoyas a 58-50 lead.

Georgetown, which went seven minutes without a basket in falling behind 18-10, closed the half with a 19-6 spurt to take a 29-24 lead at the half.

Cook hit two straight 3-pointers to ignite the run and Crawford, who had a career-high 12 points against Boston College two games ago, had a jumper, his second 3-pointer of the year and two free throws.

Cook, who was 7-of-12 from the field, started an 11-4 spurt to open the second half by splitting two defenders for a layup. Crawford hit a foul-line jumper to end the run and give Georgetown a 40-28 lead with just under 14 minutes to go.

Douby and Shields, who lead Rutgers in scoring with averages of 15.1 and 14.1 points, respectively, finished with nine and six points, respectively on a combined 4-for-19 shooting.
