WASHINGTON, DC -- The Georgetown University women's basketball team finished the 2004-05 regular season with a 7-9 league mark, placing the Hoyas sixth in the league standings. Georgetown will be facing #11 Syracuse on Saturday, March 5, at 8 p.m. in the First Round of the BIG EAST Championship held at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut.
The Hoyas closed out the regular season on a three game winning streak, defeating St. John's, Villanova, and Syracuse. Georgetown impressed many in the regular season, improving four places after they were picked to finish 10th in the BIG EAST preseason poll
The Hoyas have defeated Syracuse three times in the history of the BIG EAST Championship. All three victories were in the first round as GU won an 82-75 overtime game in 2001, a 67-65 victory in 2000 and a 68-59 win in the 1998 Championship. Georgetown is currently on a five-game winning streak against Syracuse including two victories this season, a 70-56 on February 2 in Syracuse and a 73-67 win on March 1 in Washington.
