WASHINGTON, DC -- Georgetown closed out their 2004-2005 season with a 4-3 win against Longwood at the McDonough Tennis Complex on Saturday April 16.

Georgetown fell behind in the match 1-0 as Longwood won the #1 and #2 doubles match to win the doubles competition. However, Nora Gardner (Greenwich, CT/Deerfield Academy) and Michelle DiCocco (Media, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) won the #3 doubles match for GU by an 8-5 score.

The Hoyas needed to win four of six singles matches to win the overall team match and they set about their task with focus. Adriann Gin (Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) won the #3 singles match 6-2,6-0. Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA/Torrey Pines), in her final match for the Hoyas, won the #2 singles match 6-1,6-3. Gardner chipped in a 6-1,6-1 victory at #6 singles. Because Longwood won the #1 and #4 singles matches to tie the team score at 3-3, the final match of the day, being played by Eileen Boyle (Burr Ridge, IL/St. Ignatius Prep) at #5 singles, determined the match outcome. Boyle won another exciting three set match 6-3,4-6,6-2.

The women's squad has now completed their season with a 9-12 overall record and a 3-5 record in BIG EAST Conference play. The Hoyas are not expected to be selected to compete in the season ending BIG EAST Conference Championship to be held at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. The Hoyas to their credit had a remarkable season getting impressive 4-3 road wins at Villanova and Connecticut. And for the first time since 1991, GU defeated George Washington, American, George Mason and Howard -- their four major local rivals -- in the same season.
