Liddy Bartell, the lone senior from the Georgetown Hoyas 2004-2005 team, will graduate on Saturday May 21 with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and International Business from the McDonough School of Business. Bartell will graduate with a Dean's Citation, two ITA National Academic All American Awards, and three BIG EAST Scholar Athlete Certificates. Bartell concluded her career with 84 combined career wins.
Bartell completed her career by leading her 2004-2005 team with 26 combined singles and doubles wins and a 14-6 record in dual match singles play. She also received the 2005 BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Year award, an honor she shared with teammate Adriann Gin.
Bartell showed she was indeed ready for the great accomplishments in her collegiate career when she turned in an undefeated record in BIG EAST Conference play as a freshman at #2 singles. She also led the team in wins, in only her first year of collegiate tennis, notching 16 singles wins.
Consistent play was the hallmark of Bartell's sophomore campaign, as she continued to hold down the #2 singles position and also competed at the #1 doubles position for the Hoya squad.
Bartell's junior year concluded with her third consecutive appearance in the ITA Regional Singles and Doubles Championships in October. In the collegiate tournament recognized to be one of the toughest each year, Bartell posted a three set first round win before falling to a seed in the next round. In the spring of her junior year, Bartell took a semester hiatus from college tennis as she studied at the University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Bartell returned for her senior campaign and picked right up where she left off; leading the team with 26 combined singles and doubles victories. Her individual wins helped her team win important BIG EAST Conference matches against Pittsburgh, Villanova, and Connecticut and the defeat of local rivals American, George Washington, Howard and George Mason in the same season for the first time since 1992. Bartell closed her final Hoya collegiate tennis season with an outstanding 8-4 record in BIG EAST Conference play at #2 singles and #1 doubles.
