Men's Golf Begins Fall Season at Mid Pines Tournament

Sept. 14, 2005

Washington, DC - The Georgetown University men's golf team placed 18th at the 2005 Mid Pines Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by UNC Greensboro, this past week. For the two day, three round event that concluded on Tuesday, the Hoyas shot a 14-over par 888 (298-295-295).

"We knew it was going to be one of the strongest fields we face all year, but I was just awestruck by some of the numbers posted on the scoreboard," said Head Coach Tommy Hunter after Tuesday's third round. "We could have played better, but we just did not finish our golf rounds. In each of our three golf rounds we had two players under par late in the round and just could not turn in a low score."

The lowest scoring Hoya was junior Tim Moynihan (Murrysville, PA), who shot a three-over par 219 (74-71-74) to finish tied for 40th. Freshman Tim Hager (Ivyland, PA) made his Georgetown debut finishing tied for 67 with a seven-over par 223 (72-76-75). Finishing only one stroke behind him was junior Matt Busa (Cleveland, OH), who carded an eight-over par 224 (77-74-73). Rounding out the play for the Hoyas were seniors David Erikson (Edina, MN), who placed tied for 78th with a 11-over par 227 (78-76-73) and Matt Myers (St. Joseph, MO), who was at 13-over with a 229 (75-74-80).

"I was happy with Tim Moynihan's performance," expressed Hunter. "Tim played in the number one spot for us and turned in our only sub-par round with his 71 in the afternoon on Monday. Matt Busa and Tim Hager were also bright spots and performed well in their positions."

The Hoyas return to the course in two weeks, when they compete in the Adams Cup at Newport National Golf Club in Newport, RI. The first round begins on Monday, September 26.
