Men's Soccer Breaks Into NSCAA/adidas Top 25 Poll

Sept. 27, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - The Georgetown University men's soccer team ranks tied for 25th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas poll released Wednesday afternoon. It is the first time this season the Hoyas have made an appearance in the poll and the second time the team has been ranked nationally. During the week of September 13, GU was ranked 21st in the Soccer America poll

NSCAA also ranked GU fourth in the latest South Atlantic Region poll.

Georgetown sits atop the BIG EAST Blue Division with a 6-2-0 overall record, 3-1-0 in conference action after the Hoyas posted a 2-0 record last week. GU defeated visiting Villanova 2-0 last Friday before a 3-2 overtime victory over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon.

Georgetown has two upcoming games this week when they host Manhattan on Wednesday, September 28 at 3 pm and Providence on Saturday, October 1 at 12 noon.

GU has won three of their last four games, including two overtime wins. Junior goalkeeper Andrew Keszler (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 31 saves and has posted three shutouts.

Earlier this week, junior forward Ricky Schramm (Eastchester, N.Y./Fordham Prep) earned his fourth career BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award while freshman Richard Frank (Paradise Valley, Ariz/Chaparral) earned his first BIG EAST Rookie of the Week award, as announced by the BIG EAST office Monday.

Schramm, the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, scored two goals in helping the Hoyas to a 2-0 week with wins over Villanova and Rutgers. Schramm, who also earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, now leads all BIG EAST players with five goals and 10 points in conference action as GU is alone in first place of the Blue Division (6-2-0 overall, 3-1-0 BE). The 2004 Third-Team NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region selection notched a goal in the 60th minute to solidify a 2-0 win over visiting Villanova on Friday before tallying the game-winner in overtime to propel the Hoyas to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Rutgers on Sunday. Schramm has 27 career goals to now rank seventh all-time on the school's goal scorer list and his 65 career points ranks the former Fordham Prep scholastic star 10th all-time in GU history.

Frank scored one goal and assisted on another in Georgetown's wins over Villanova, 2-0, and Rutgers, 3-2 in overtime. The rookie forward posted an unassisted goal at the 60:52 mark in the Villanova victory on Friday before he helped set up the game-winning goal in overtime against Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. Frank now ranks third on the team with seven points (5 G, 2 A).

Georgetown will be in action again on Wednesday, September 28 when they host Manhattan College in a non-league game that begins at 3 pm.
