(Sept. 28) WASHINGTON, DC - Junior forward Ricky Schramm (Eastchester, N.Y./Fordham Prep) tallied two goals for the third time this season and sophomore
Joe Devine (Exton, Pa./The Haverford School) posted his first career shutout as the #25 ranked Georgetown University men's soccer team improved their 2005 record to 7-2-0 overall with a 3-0 victory over visiting Manhattan College in non-league action this afternoon. The Hoyas posted their fourth shutout of the season at North Kehoe Field to remain unbeaten at home (7-0-1) in their last eight games dating back to least year.
The Hoyas took 32 shots which sets a new 2005 BIG EAST single-game mark previously held by the Hoyas (28 vs. Howard Univ.).
GU took a 1-0 advantage a little over 41 minutes into the first half when sophomore Mike Glacum (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle) sent a beautiful cross into the middle of the penalty area where freshman Sean Bellomy (Dallas Tx./Jesuit College Prep) headed the ball into the back of the net. It was Glacum's second assist of the season and the second goal of the campaign by Bellomy.
Sixteen minutes into the second half, Schramm connected on his first goal of the contest from just outside the 18-yard box after a feed from senior Ben Jefferson-Dow (Seattle, Wa./Roosevelt).
Three minutes later, GU's Richard Frank (Paradise Valley, AZ/Chaparral) drew a Jasper foul six yards from the end line setting up the Hoyas first penalty kick of the year. Schramm beat Manhattan keeper David Mires with a solid shot to complete the game's scoring.
Devine made three saves in his first start of the season while the Hoyas recorded 12 shots on goal to Manhattan's three.
Schramm now has a team-best seven goals this year as he posted his sixth career multi-goal game.
Georgetown will be in action again on Saturday, October 1 when they host Providence College (3-0-5, 1-0-3 BE) in a BIG EAST game that begins at 12 pm.
