Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University sailing program highlighted this weekend by a strong second place finish by the women's team at the Yale Women's Intersectional. Also, the coed squad was in Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Fall Intersectional, placing ninth.
The Hoya women, ranked No. 5 in the latest Sailing World college poll, placed better than two schools above them in the rankings, trailing only No. 2 Yale. Georgetown totaled 152 points in the event's 24 races. In the A division, junior Blaire Herron (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and senior Emily Siguler (Conway, Mass./The Hotchkiss School) used an impressive Sunday showing to move into second place. The pair had 54 points over the 12 races, only two points behind Yale. Herron and Siguler won three of the four races on Sunday, topping off a weekend which saw a top-five finish in eight of the 12. Sophomore Emily Babbitt (Dartmouth, Mass./Bishop Stang) and junior Jamie Loeks (Rye, N.Y./Rye) were seventh in the B division with 98 points.
At the Navy Fall Intersectional, Georgetown was busy, taking part in 76 races over the four division regatta. The Hoyas were ninth with 644, as Yale took the title with 483. Junior Chris Behm (Hampton, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) and sophomore Carly Chamberlain (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) had the best finish for the Hoyas, placing second in the B division. The duo was only three points behind Yale with 108 over the 19 races, including 10 top-five finishes and three race wins. Georgetown was also strong in the B division, where seniors J.B. Turney (Winnetka, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and Caroline LaMotte (Oxford, Md./The Hotchkiss School) finished third. Dartmouth (86 points) was first in the division, followed by St. Mary's College (111) and the Hoyas (114). Turney and LaMotte had 12 top-five showings, including four wins and four second places. In the C division, senior Langdon Mitchell (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) was 13th, while freshman Marco Teixidor (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/St. John's School) was 10th in the D division.
The Hoyas have a busy schedule set for next weekend, including the Kings Point Invitational, the Hoyt Trophy, the MAISA Fall Open and Sloop Championship and the Stu Nelson Women's Invitational.
