Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University volleyball team lost its third-straight match today with a 3-0 loss at BIG EAST Conference opponent Connecticut. The Hoyas drop to 7-16 overall and 1-9 in league play while the Huskies improve to 16-9, 5-5 BE. Game scores were 23-30, 12-30, 20-30.
The first game saw the Hoyas rally back from a five-point deficit (16-11), winning seven of the next eight points with two kills from senior Jessica George (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) and one apiece from freshmen Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) and Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) to pull ahead 18-17. With the teams trading the lead, UConn's Jessica Isaac served up two aces to give the Huskies a 23-20 lead. A kill from sophomore Katie Nulty (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) would cut the Connecticut lead to three (26-23), but the Huskies won the next four points to take game one, 30-23.
In game two, two five-point runs and an additional six-point run would be more than enough for Connecticut to easily take the game. With the Hoyas up 4-3, five consecutive UConn kills would give them an 8-4 lead. A kill from George would end the run, but the Huskies would take advantage of a GU service error and win the next five points. With a 20-9 lead, Connecticut took the next five points to lead 25-9 and would win five of the next eight points to take game two.
Georgetown dropped the first three points to start game three. The Hoyas would pull within one (8-7) off a kill from Robinson but the Huskies strung together a few points for a 16-10 lead. UConn would hold on to the lead for the rest of the game. A kill from freshman Dana Dumas (Nokomis, Fla./Pine View) would pull the Hoyas within four (23-19) but Connecticut took six of the next nine points to win game three and the match.
McKoy led the team with six kills and an attack percentage of .500 while also recording two digs and one block assist. Robinson put in another six kills and had five digs on the day with one block assist. Nulty hit .500 today while freshman Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) led the team with 15 digs.
