Washington D.C. - Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown volleyball team hosts UMBC on Tuesday, October 10 in McDonough Arena. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start. The Hoyas (5-12, 0-5 BIG EAST) look to snap an eight-game losing streak while the Retrievers (9-9, 2-1 America East) look to extend their winning streak to three.
The Hoyas are coming off a weekend where they were on the road for a pair of BIG EAST matchups. On Saturday, they played at Pittsburgh, losing 3-0 to the Panthers, who are now sixth in the conference. Sunday pitted the Hoyas against the Mountaineers of West Virginia, where the Hoyas were dealt another 3-0 decision. Sunday's game saw sophomore Jessica Buffum (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook) post a double-double with 20 kills and 14 digs.
On Saturday, freshman Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley) led the team with a .667 attack percentage while fellow-freshman Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) led the squad with five blocks (three solo, two assists). Sophomore Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) had two blocks while freshman Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) recorded nine digs.
The Retrievers are on a two-game winning streak with wins at St. Francis (Pa.) (3-1) and over Maine (3-1). Freshman Ashley Oscars leads the team with 213 kills while sophomore Sarah Ball has posted 232 digs and 43 total blocks on the season.
