Washington, D.C. - Georgetown novice crew took part in a fall scrimmage against George Washington University and the University of Virginia on Saturday, November 4, on the Potomac River. Georgetown's men's and women's novice heavyweight and lightweight teams all competed in the event.
Georgetown men's crew placed four boats in the top six of the men's eight race. The heavyweight "A" and "B" crews finished second and third respectively. The heavyweight "A" finished with a time of 14:44, 12 seconds behind the winner of the race, George Washington "A". Meanwhile, the heavyweight "B" finished third with a time of 14:58.
Georgetown's lightweight "A" and "B" crews also finished among the top six boats during the men's eight race. The lightweight "A" crew finished fourth with a time of 15:01, while the lightweight "B" crew finished sixth with a time of 15:06.
"It was a fun, competitive afternoon, a great way to expose our novices to racing," said men's novice heavyweight coach Marc Mandel. "On the men's side, George Washington's 'A' boat was definitely the class of the field on Saturday. That being said, I like the way our athletes are developing for the long term as we near the end of the fall season."
Georgetown's women's heavyweight crew finished second in the women's eight with a time of 16:45. The two lightweight crews finished with a time of 16:51 for third place and 18:43 for sixth.
"This weekend's racing was a fun gathering of three University's novice squads. The women's heavyweight novices felt great success at the end of the day but know there is more hard work that needs to be done," said women's novice heavyweight coach Liz Bond "The women's lightweight novices were also very happy with the results and are excited to compete against other lightweight squads this coming weekend."
