Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's sailing team had an impressive showing at the MAISA Women's Fall Championship, sweeping both the A and B divisions en route to the conference title. With 49 points, the Hoyas, ranked No. 4 in the latest Sailing World college rankings, topped No. 1 St. Mary's by 17 points for the crown.
Junior Blaire Herron (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and senior Emily Siguler (Conway, Mass./The Hotchkiss School) were dominant in the A division, totaling only 21 points over the 11 races. The pair did not finish lower than third in any start, including five first place finishes. St. Mary's was second with 32 points, followed by the U.S. Naval Academy with 40.
In the B division, Georgetown was led by a pair of freshmen - Christine Burke (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) and Caila Johnson (Newport, R.I./St. Paul's School). The duo compiled 28 points, edging St. Mary's by six points and Hobart/William Smith by 10. In the 11 races, the newcomers crossed first six times, leading the Hoyas to the conference title.
The Hoyas move on to the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship in Kings Points, N.Y. next weekend. In addition, the coed squad will be at the Coed Atlantic Coast Championship, hosted by Brown University and the North/South Intersectional, hosted by UC Irvine.
