Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head women's basketball coach Terri Williams-Flournoy announced that Sarah Stewart (Houston, Texas/J. Jones H.S.) and Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Acad. of the Holy Cross) have signed national letters of intent to join the Hoya program in the Fall of 2007.
Stewart is a 5-11 guard who spent two years at Westfield High School. Stewart helped Westfield to the 2004 Texas Girl's Basketball State Championship as a freshman. As a sophomore, Stewart was named All-District second team after averaging 11 points. In the off-season, Stewart was a major cog that helped her AAU team qualify for the AAU National Tournament and to the AAU Gulf Coast Championship.
Stewart transferred to Jones High School in Houston, Texas for coach Quincy Shelton and was named All-District first team, averaging 20 points for the Lady Falcons.
"Sarah can be a combo guard for us because she can score off the dribble," said head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. "She gives us more depth in the backcourt."
McNutt is a 6-0 guard/forward who has played her first three prep seasons at the Academy of the Holy Cross in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. McNutt, who has played all five positions in high school, led the Tartans, averaging more than 11 points per game and led the team in free throw percentage, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage. She also ranked second on the team in the rebounds and assists over the two-year span. She was named MVP of the Maryland Private School Tournament, leading the Tartans to a 22-8 record as a junior.
McNutt garnered All-Conference third team honors as a sophomore and junior and All-Montgomery County accolades last season in addition to being named Washington Post Honorable Mention All-Metropolitan. She is considered one of the area's top seniors.
"McNutt is a big guard who can shoot from anywhere," said Williams-Flournoy. "She has tremendous shooting touch and should help out our perimeter game."
