Georgetown Men's Soccer Coach Keith Tabatznik Resigns

Feb. 10, 2006

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head men's soccer coach Keith Tabatznik resigned from his position, effective immediately, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Bernard Muir.

"We are grateful for Keith's service and guidance during his time here," Muir said. "He has helped make the Georgetown men's soccer program one of the most competitive in the BIG EAST Conference and one that has been recognized nationally. We respect his decision and wish him our best."

Tabatznik completed his 22nd season with the Hoyas in 2005 and he compiled a 220-187-23 record, including a 94-73-10 mark in BIG EAST play. He is the all-time winningest coach in program history and ranks among the top-35 most active winning coaches in Division I. Tabatznik guided Georgetown to 13 BIG EAST and two NCAA Tournament appearances. In 1994, he led the team to a school record 18 wins, the program's first postseason berth and to a No. 9 national ranking.

"Georgetown University and the soccer program have been a major part of my life for the past 22 years," Tabatznik said. "Although I'm moving on, a part of me will always be here. I am looking forward to coming back and watching the team succeed in the BIG EAST."

He has coached four BIG EAST Players of the Year, 17 first-team All-BIG EAST players and 15 second team honorees, including 2005 senior Jeff Curtin, who was a first round pick of the Chicago Fire in January's Major League Soccer SuperDraft, the 13th player during the Tabatznik tenure to play on the professional level. The Hoyas also had 25 regional All-American selections and 24 earn scholar-athlete recognition. Nearly 100 percent of his student-athletes graduated during his tenure and only two transferred from Georgetown in 22 years.

Tabatznik was twice named BIG EAST Coach of the Year (1994, 1997) and earned Regional Coach of the Year honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (1994).

"I have been privileged to share the Georgetown University experience with so many student-athletes throughout the years," Tabatznik said. "I'm blessed to have had great memories from my time here and I will always be part of Georgetown, even as I move into my next professional challenge. I will continue to bleed Blue and Gray."

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
