No. 16 DePaul Edges Hoyas, 64-58

Washington, D.C. -- Georgetown University sophomore Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 22 points and ten rebounds but No. 16 DePaul tripped up the Hoyas, 64-58 tonight at McDonough Arena in a BIG EAST contest. Georgetown falls to 10-13 overall, 3-9 in the league.

DePaul (21-5, 8-5 BE) pulled down 16 offensive rebounds and turned them into 32 points in the paint. Blue Demon senior Khara Smith tallied game highs with 24 points and 18 rebounds for her 17th double-double of the season.

The Blue Demons led 53-44 with 9:12 to play before the Hoyas battled back. Georgetown junior Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph's) hit two three-pointers over the next 1:30 to pull the Hoyas within 53-50. After a steal by Marlow on the ensuing DPU possession, freshman Nikki Bozeman (District Heights, Md./Bishop McNamara) assisted on a Marlow layin as GU cut it to one, 53-52. Smith responded with two baskets and Allie Quigley, DePaul's second-leading scorer, made her first field goal of the game on a tough jumper to push the Blue Demon lead back up to 55-52 with 4:49 remaining.

Marlow scored the next three Hoya points, all from the free throw line, were she finished 10-12 for the night as GU closed to within 57-55, but Smith scored the following two field goals to put the game away.

Carlin finished with 12 points on four of six shooting from long range and Georgetown sophomore Kristin Heidloff (Chicago Ill./Fenwick) added 11 points to along with six assists and three steals. Bozeman added four assists in a career-best 30 minutes.

The Hoyas, who trailed 31-25 at halftime opened the second period on a 7-0 run and Marlow's 12-footer gave Georgetown a 32-31 lead with 17:55 to go.

Both teams shot 42.6 percent from the floor but DePaul outrebounded the Hoyas, 39-29. DePaul also turned 18 GU turnovers into 21 points.

Georgetown travels to Marquette for a 3 p.m. BIG EAST contest on Sunday, February 19.
