Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head volleyball coach Arlisa Hagan has announced that three future Hoyas have signed their national letters of intent to attend Georgetown in the fall of 2006. Dana Dumas (Nokomis, Fla./Pine View), Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) and Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove HS) will all be attending school on the Washington, D.C. campus in the fall.
Dumas is a 6-1 middle hitter who was named Class 5A Player of the Year in 2005 after helping the Venice High School team to the Class 5A State title as a senior for Coach Brian Wheatley. As a senior, Dumas, who was named an "All American Athlete", was selected to the All-Tournament Teams at the Berkeley Prep and Tamp Prep Tournaments and was named Player of the Week by ABC Channel 7, SNN, Channel 6 and the Herald Tribune.
Dumas, a club teammate of another 2006 Hoya signee, Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep), took part in the Junior Olympics as a member of the Tampa Bay Juniors in 2005 and qualified for the event in 2006 under Coach Jeff Lamm.
"Dana is going to be a great addition to our team," said Hagan. "What is so appealing about her as a player is her versatility. We foresee Dana helping us in the middle, on the outside and on the right side."
McKoy stands at 6-0 and has been a middle blocker and right side hitter for Coach Tim Newman at Bishop O'Dowd High. The Oakland, California native was a major cog for the team that won two straight HAAL League Championships in 2004 and 2005. Bishop O'Dowd was a two-time NCS runner-up and made an appearance in the State Semifinals in 2005. McKoy currently plays for City Beach after seasons with Golden Bear, Vision and XLVB Club teams.
"In addition to the great club and high school experiences Kiersten has had, she gained valuable knowledge in both the USA and Northern California high performance and youth programs," Hagan said. "That experience plus her long arms and quick jump will help the Hoyas move forward in the BIG EAST Conference."
Robinson is a 6-0 outside hitter who has earned three varsity letters at Pleasant Grove High. Robinson earned All-State First Team honors by Desert News in 2004 and 2005. The Salt Lake Tribune recognized Robinson with All-State First Team accolades. Robinson helped lead Pleasant Grove to the Region Championship in 2003, 2004 and 2005, including a 34-1 record during her senior year. Robinson ranked third in the state with 89 service aces in 2005.
"I am thrilled that Kortney decided to join our family," Hagan said. "She's going to be a very good college player and comes to us with very good ball control skills already. I am looking forward to seeing her on the court come August."
Dumas, McKoy and Robinson join Cohen and Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) who have already signed on with the Hoyas.
"(Assistant Coach) Mitch Sadowsky has done a great job recruiting," Hagan added. "This is a class that we are truly excited to have in our gym. They will allow us to be physical at the net and faster all around. More importantly, they are good students and good people who will do well in the classroom and on the court. They will make a difference on the Hilltop."
Georgetown will begin the 2006 season with the D.C. Challenge on Friday, August 25 when GU takes on the George Washington Colonials. The first serve is set for<> 5 p.m. at American University.
