Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team took a 5-2 decision over backyard rival Howard today at the McDonough Tennis Complex. The Hoyas improve to 3-7 on the season.
The duo of sophomores Liz Winokur (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) and Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) remain the only undefeated doubles team on the Hoya squad, improving to 2-0 with a 9-7 win at the first doubles flight.
The lone victory from Winokur and Cohen would not be enough as the Hoyas lost the doubles point, trailing 1-0 going into singles play. Decisive wins from Winokur and freshmen Courtney Olsen (Englewood, Colo./Colorado Academy) and Taylor Martin (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) put Georgetown up 3-1. Cohen won her bout, 6-4, 6-3 to win the match for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas return to the court Wednesday, April 5 when they travel to local rival, American, for a non-conference match. The match is slated for 2:30 p.m.
