Washington, D.C. - First-year Georgetown University men's soccer coach Brian Wiese announced the schedule for the 2006 season. The Hoyas will square off against eight teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2005. Georgetown will play eight home games at North Kehoe Field and are slated to be on the road for nine regular-season games.
Georgetown will tune up for the 2006 campaign with three tough exhibition matches. The Hoyas square off with defending NCAA Champion Maryland (Aug. 12) at the SoccerPlex in Germantown, MD before going on the road to play Virginia (Aug. 16) and Towson (Aug. 18).
"We have an incredibly challenging and exciting schedule laid out for us this season. We want to use our exhibition matches to see exactly where we are as a team and what adjustments we might have to make. The three matches we lined up will do just that."
Georgetown opens the regular-season taking on George Washington and American in the sixth annual D.C. College Cup in the quest for the Craig Tartasky Trophy, which will take place on the campus of American University. The Hoyas will tangle with GW on August 25 before playing the host AU Eagles on Sunday, August 27. Georgetown took home the D.C. College Cup title in 2005.
Georgetown travels to Omaha, Nebraska for its initial road trip of the season at the Ameritas Classic, hosted by Creighton University. The Hoyas will play the host Bluejays on Friday, September 1 before GU takes on Missouri St. on Sunday, September 3.
Georgetown opens its home slate with two BIG EAST opponents. Syracuse visits North Kehoe Field on Sept. 8 before the Red Storm of St. John's comes to the nation's capital on Sept. 10. The Hoyas are 2-0-1 in their last three meetings with the Orange.
GU then travels north to BIG EAST rivals Villanova on Sept. 15 and Rutgers Sept. 17. Georgetown is 9-1-2 in its last 12 games with Villanova and the Hoyas are 4-1 in its last five games with Rutgers since the 2000 season.
From the last week of September until the middle of October, Georgetown plays five of its next seven games in the friendly confines of North Kehoe Field. Georgetown hosts Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Seton Hall on Sept. 27 in what should be two tough league matches.
After a trip to Providence on September 30 against a Friar team that was one of the most improved in the nation last season, Georgetown plays hosts to non-league and cross-town rival Howard (Oct. 3) to open the month of October. On Oct. 7, Georgetown heads to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame. Hoya head coach Brian Wiese will be reunited with his former mentor, Fighting Irish head man Bobby Clark.
The Hoyas play three of their final four games at home taking on Lafayette on Oct. 10 in their last non-conference game of the season. West Virginia comes to the nation's capital on Oct. 14 before GU hits the road at Pittsburgh on Oct. 18. Georgetown has a 15-5 all-time record over the Panthers.
Georgetown concludes the regular-season with a home game vs. Marquette on Oct. 21 in just the second meeting between the schools.
Creighton, St. John's, Connecticut, Seton Hall, Providence, Notre Dame, Lafayette, and West Virginia are the eight Hoya opponents who participated in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Rutgers is set to host the BIG EAST semifinals and finals at RU's Yurcak Field, Nov. 3-5. The BIG EAST First Round games and Quarterfinals will be held on campus sites from Oct. 25-29.
