Washington, D.C. - After just three days of preseason camp, the Georgetown University men's soccer team will take the field against players who don't wear Blue & Grey uniforms. The Hoyas will take on the defending NCAA Champion Maryland Terrapins in an exhibition match at the Soccerplex in Germantown, Md. on Saturday, August 12. The match begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
"It's awfully early to play a game but we're looking at it as a teaching tool," said first-year head coach Brian Wiese. "We have a new coaching staff and a good amount of players who will be seeing the pace of the college game for the first time but it will be good for the kids to have that game feel. I think it will be a good gauge to see where we are individually and as a team."
Georgetown opens the regular-season on Friday, Aug. 25 in the D.C. College Cup. The Hoyas will face the George Washington Colonials at 2:30 p.m. in a match that will be played at American University.
Georgetown returns nine starters including their goalkeeper to the 2006 squad that was selected to finish sixth in the Blue Division in the BIG EAST preseason poll as selected by the league head coaches. Last season, the Hoyas posted a 7-3 home record and 5-3 mark in games decided by a single goal.
Since Wednesday, August 9, the Hoyas' preseason training has included a practice session in the morning and a practice session in the afternoon.
