Washington, D.C - Georgetown University head volleyball coach Arlisa Hagan announced that Julie Allen has been added to the Hoya coaching staff.
Allen, a 2002 graduate of the University of Portland, comes to the Hilltop after spending the 2004 and 2005 seasons as an assistant coach at Chico State University (Calif.) helping to direct the Wildcats in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Allen assisted in all aspects of the program including recruiting, travel and summer camps. Also, while at Chico St., Allen was the head coach of the men's club team which earned a fifth place finish in the national tournament.
The Chico, California native was head coach at the Empire Volleyball Club in Santa Rosa from January, 2000 to July, 2004 providing instructional training sessions for children of all ages.
Allen was also the head coach at Santa Rosa Middle School and Tualatin High School (Ore.).
During her collegiate playing days, Allen was a four-year setter for the Portland Pilots.
"We are so excited that Julie has joined our program," said Hagan. "She brings great experience to GU having played as a setter in college in addition to her coaching duties at the collegiate level." Not only that, but with her ties to the northern California area, she will be a huge asset when the Hoya staff hits the recruiting trail."
Hagan, Allen and the Hoyas tip off the 2006 season on Friday, August 25 against George Washington in the D.C. Challenge. The match will be played at American University.
