Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head women's basketball coach Terri Williams-Flournoy has announced that Aminata Diop (ahm-i-na-ta jop) has signed with the Hoyas program.
Diop is a 6-5 center from Saint Louis, Senegal, who played her first two collegiate seasons at Southeastern Illinois College for coach Greg Franklin. Diop averaged 10.5 points and 8.9 rebounds at SIC, helping the Lady Falcons to a No. 5 national ranking last season.
A member of the Senegal junior national team in 2000-2001 and her nation's senior national team in 2001-02, Diop was named All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference last season at SIC and was a major cog for the Lady Falcons, who won their third straight Region 24 title.
"Aminata will be a great addition to our program," said Williams-Flournoy. "She should be able to help us at the post position right away."
Diop, who has two years of eligibility remaining, will be able to suit for the Hoyas for the upcoming 2006-07 season.
