Washington, D.C. -- After two straight BIG EAST home games, the Georgetown University men's soccer team takes to the road and travels north to take on Villanova (3-3-1, 0-2-0) on Friday, September 15 at noon before a meeting with Rutgers (1-4-0, 0-2-0) on Sunday, September 17 at 2 p.m.
As a team, Georgetown ranks third in the league with 11 goals, 31 points and 1.83 goals per game.
The Hoyas are one of three teams to have scored five goals in a game this season (Notre Dame, St. John's).
Seniors Ricky Schramm (Eastchester, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and Daniel Grasso (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central) are among the league leaders with three goals apiece while Schramm ranks second in the BIG EAST, having taken 25 shots. Schramm has 76 career points and moved into eighth on the school's all-time list. The 2004 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year has 32 career goals, moving him into fourth on the school's all-time scoring list.
Four Georgetown players are having a homecoming of sorts at Villanova. Senior defender Tim Convey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) and Mike Glaccum (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle) are from Philadelphia. Convey played his prep ball at Penn Charter and Glaccum played at La Salle. Junior goalkeeper Joe Devine (Exton, Pa./The Haverford School) hails from Exton about 40 minutes from Philadelphia while sophomore midfielder Alex Fairman (Ardmore, Pa./The Haverford School) is from nearby Ardmore. Devine and Fairman played high school soccer at The Haverford School.
Devine, who has appeared in three games making a total of nine saves, made two saves in his first career conference start vs. Syracuse last Friday to collect his second career shutout.
Sophomore midfielder Corey Zeller (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) and freshman defender Len Coleman (Basking Ridge, N.J./The Pingry School) will be going home on Sunday for the game with Rutgers.
Sophomore Richard Frank (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral) scored the game-winner vs. Syracuse in the 105th minute to propel the Hoyas to their first BIG EAST win in the 2006 home opener. The shot from 24 yards out was Frank's first career game-winning goal.
There were five goals scored in the first 16 minutes of St. John's-Georgetown game, a 5-2 Red Storm victory. The seven combined goals were the most in a GU regulation BIG EAST game since a 4-3 win over Providence in 1997.
The Hoyas have trailed in five of their first six games this season.
Georgetown (2-4-0, 1-1-0 BE) is 9-1 in their last 10 regular-season meetings with Villanova, with their lone loss coming in 2004. The Hoyas hold a 15-6-3 all-time record over the Wildcats.
