Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University soccer standout Ricky Schramm (Eastchester, N.Y./Fordham Prep) was selected in the third round and 37th overall by D.C. United in the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Friday afternoon.
The Hoya program has seen a former player selected in the MLS SuperDraft for the third straight year.
Schramm was the fourth player selected by D.C.United in the 2007 draft and the seventh BIG EAST Conference player chosen.
Schramm was selected to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Men's Division I All-Northeast Region Third Team as announced by the NSCAA following his senior after leading the Hoyas in scoring for the fourth straight season. The forward ranked third in the BIG EAST with 10 goals and fourth in the league with 24 points.
Schramm finished his Georgetown career tied for third on the school's all-time list with Raul Ferrer (1992-95) with 39 career goals. Schramm, a two-time team MVP, also concluded his career tied for fourth all-time with Tim Keegan (1990-94) with 93 career points.
Schramm, earned All-BIG EAST second team honors following the 2006 season after being named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year in 2004 and All-BIG EAST third team in 2005.
Schramm joins Phil Wellington (`96), Brandon Lieb (`97), Eric Kvello (`99), Dan Gargan (`05) and Jeff Curtin (`06) as the sixth Hoya player to be taken in the MLS draft.
The MLS SuperDraft consists of four rounds and 52 total picks.
