Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The No. 16 ranked Louisville Cardinals slipped past the Georgetown University women's basketball team, 57-54 Tuesday night at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas fall to 11-6 on the year, 1-3 in BIG EAST action while U of L improves to 17-1, 3-1 in the league.

Junior forward Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) netted 21 points for the Hoyas while sophomore Katrina Wheeler (Washington, D.C./T. Roosevelt) added seven points and 11 rebounds. Juniors Aminata Diop (Saint Louis, Senegal/Southeastern Illinois J.C.) and Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) chipped in with eight points apiece.

Georgetown rallied from ten points down (38-28) with 16:48 left in the second half but battled and took a 48-45 lead with 7:54 to go on two free throws by Diop. The game would sway for the next six minutes with the Cardinals taking a 52-50 lead with 3:40 remaining.

Louisville's Angel McCoughtry, who posted game-highs with 24 points and 14 rebounds, upped the visitor's lead to 54-50 with two free throws with 2:57 to go. The teams traded three-point plays on the next two possessions, including a trey by Louisville's Patrika Barlow but Marlow scored on another layup before Wheeler made one of two foul shots for a 57-54 GU deficit.

Louisville had a chance to seal the game with a free throw opportunity on their end but a U of L lane violation gave the Hoyas one last chance to tie with 14 seconds left.

Georgetown worked the ball near the top of the key with Marlow getting a decent look off a screen but McCoughty extended her arm to tip Marlow's trey attempt and hauled in the loose rebound as time expired.

The teams were tied with 20 rebounds apiece at halftime but Louisville finished with a 43-33 rebound advantage. Nine of their 23 boards were on the offensive end.

The Hoyas turned the ball over a season-low 11 times and just four times after halftime.

Georgetown trailed by just four points at the break. The Hoyas got off to a chilly start from the floor and trailed 21-10 with 9:15 to go. The Cardinals made six of their first 12 field goals, including four of their first five from long range. McCoughtry, alone, was 4-4 from behind the arc.

The Hoyas closed the half shooting 7-16 from the field to pull within 30-26 at intermission. Marlow paced GU with nine points in the opening period while Wheeler hauled in nine rebounds.

Georgetown has a bye in the BIG EAST schedule this coming weekend and returns to court when GU travels to Rutgers on Tuesday, January 16.
