Washington, D.C. - For the second consecutive Tuesday afternoon, the Georgetown University men's soccer team will host a cross-town rival. The Hoyas host American University tomorrow, October 16 at 3 p.m. on North Kehoe Field.
The long-time rivals have met in every season since 1973. AU leads, the all-time series, 24-18-2 although Georgetown is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between the schools.
Georgetown (3-9-0, 2-5-0) dropped both of its games last week, a 2-0 decision vs. George Washington on Tuesday before the Hoyas fell 1-0 in OT at No. 19 West Virginia.
With its 1-0 overtime defeat at WVU, the Blue & Gray has now lost six games by the score of 1-0, including four BIG EAST conference matches.
Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) has started in five of the last six games, posting two shutouts and allowing just four goals in the stretch.
The Hoyas are in the midst of playing three straight Tuesday games. GU travels to College Park, Md. to take on the University of Maryland on Oct. 23.
Junior midfielder Corey Zeller (Toms Rover, N.J./Toms River) leads the Hoyas with three goals and six points.
Sophomore Scott Larrabee (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Loyola High School of Los Angeles) and freshmen Mostafa Ebrahimnejad (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and Robert Burnett (Plano, Texas/Plano West) have each started in all 12 games.
Five freshmen and three sophomores started in the Blue & Gray's last match at West Virginia.
American (5-6-2, 2-0-1 Patriot League) is led by freshman forward Daniel Shannon, who was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week yesterday, Shannon scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute in a 1-0 win over Navy on Saturday. The goal was his team-leading third of the season and his third game-winning tally.
